At the time of crossing a wide road, always cross in two section. In the first section,
cross straight to the island carefully and in the second section, cross when the road is
clear
Do not cross the road at a curve, as drivers may not be able to notice in time
Hold on to the handrail, especially when a moving bus takes a sharp turn
Never sit or stand on the footboard of the bus
Never put any part of the body outside a school bus window
Parents should properly take care of their children, while dropping their children
themselves
Children should have proper awareness on road safety rules
Every school bus should have a teacher for controlling students and maintaining
discipline inside the bus
If any children violates the traffic laws, teachers should report it to concerned
Principal or Traffic police
School buses should be checked regularly regarding necessary safety requirements
Children should be given adequate supervision while boarding the bus
Teachers are responsible to arrange an alternative bus and put children together, if
a bus fails to arrive or if there is any issue
There should be a seperate committee for dealing with the issues related to school bus transportation. The committee should include School Principal, a PTA representative, bus administrator, police official, motor vehicle inspector, education inspector and all the relevant authorities

The school authorities should conduct a training regarding the usage of First Aid and fire extinguisher in the beginning of every academic year
Every schools should appoint Traffic Wardens to administer traffic and assure safety of children during school hours
There should be appropriate road markings and road signs near every schools with the permission from traffic police
School authorities should make proper arrangements to ensure safe boarding of the school children from any vehicle
All school bus drivers must undergo various health tests conducted by a qualified doctor
Every school buses should possess insurance approved by a reputed insurance company
A lady attendant should be there in every school buses for the safety of girl students
There should be a firstaid box with necessary medicines and equipment in every school buses
Every school buses should have details about students along with their contact numbers for handling emergency situations
No seats that block the emergency doors shall be permitted
School buses shall not carry children more than the specified capacity of the buses
No music shall be played inside the school bus
No smoking or alcohol consumption by the school bus staffs
Doors of the school bus must be closed while it is in motion
School authorities should assign a male as well as a female staff to protect students in the school bus until they reach the destination. Buses should install a working GPS & CCTV facilities.
Management should check driving licenses of each driver and should confirm whether they have any crime records from police.
Managements should have written approval from vehicle owners showing that owners alone are responsible for violating norms by drivers.
Managements should give strict instructions to drivers for staying inside vehicles. They should be given warning about not to try moving inside school premises and dragging children into unwanted conversation
Only concerned teachers and supervisors should accompany students at school ground, swimming pool, labs, library, auditorium etc.
Every schools must have Floor Vigilance Officers (FVO) for ensuring student safety. They should be able to monitor all the activities happening inside the campus
CCTVs should be installed in the school buses
Parents as well as students should be able to contact each other during emergencies
Staff, officebearers of management, security guards, attendants should be given id cards of each student to contact at emergency situations
School management should have security guards round a clock. These security staffs should report to their heads every two hours about safety status
All school buses must be painted with yellow colour
